Paul G. Allen has spent his career tackling some of the world’s hardest problems and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. In late 2014 — as the nation continued its recovery from the 2009 recession — Allen focused on addressing a new problem: the dearth of accessible information about our economy. Allen engaged Vulcan Productions to develop a fresh, engaging approach to a topic that historically, offered bland content and mind-numbing educational programs.
Partnering with the team at Cinelan, we developed and produced We The Economy , a slate of 20+ shorts in the scripted, doc, and animated genres. The films were distributed for free across 70+ channels as well as housed in robust web and app-based education platforms. The films, website and apps were designed to inform, and entertain people everywhere with fresh approaches on the fundamentals of economics.
Collaboration
I oversaw and collaborated on multiple components of this initiative including digital strategy, digital education tools, web/app development, social media strategy, branding, and measurement and evaluation. We partnered with the incredibly creative team at TruckStop Media to build the web and app platforms.
Impact
As of 2020, We The Economy had earned over 20M video views, more than 1 billion media impressions, a social media reach of over 30M, and the education curriculum was downloaded over 20K times and is still being used in classrooms from middle school through college.
